Well, that didn't take long. Just a day after rumors that Dell was planning to exit the LCD TV business started to circulate, the company has now come out and flatly denied them, although it does apparently have a few changes in store. The first of those is that Dell is now planning to only sell LCD TVs that are 37-inches or smaller under its own brand. To fill in that gap, Dell says it's planning to sell more TVs from other manufacturers, which it began doing in February with the addition of a number of Sony sets, along with models by Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung, and ViewSonic. Presumably, this has no effect on their monitor business, which, at the rate things are going, should be passing the 37-inch mark any day now.

Not too long after Belkin threw its name in the iPhone accessory hat, the company has now introduced a number of replacement iPod docks and charging kits. The $49.99 F8Z126 Power Dock AV is essentially a basic silver iPod dock that sports USB connectivity and AV output in order to pipe multimedia to your television set, while the vanilla $34.99 F8Z122 Power Dock strips itself of any video exporting abilities. On the charging side, the $34.99 F8Z152 Charging Kit for iPod consists of an AC outlet to dock connector cable, USB cable, and a cigarette adapter for road trippin', while the $24.99 F8Z121 Power Adapter for iPod offers up just the AC adapter for those strange moments when you can't seem to locate a spare USB port. All four units should be available any moment here in the US, while launches in Asia, Europe, and Australia will be following soon.

Sure, Apple's latest 15-inch MacBook Pro may have stolen the thunder from HP Compaq's 2510p by getting its LED-backlit machine out to customers first, but for the purely Wintel crowd, this one's sure to please. In some foreign lair, the amigos (and chicas) over at TecnoSquad were able to apprehend a loose 2510p laptop long enough to snap a few detailed pictures showing off its exterior and even its posture while parked in a docking station. You already know what's inside, so make sure you leap past the jump in order to catch some external photos including one that unscientifically shows it as the brightest of the three pictured machines.

Looks like Aigo's A215 finally has some decent competition, as MSI's recently announced MS-5552 digital audio player matches the purported battery life minute for minute, but requires just a single AAA battery rather than the more traditional AA cell. Additionally, the larger, more vivid screen sure helps the MSI's appearance, but we're fairly certain that activating the built-in Bluetooth will knock those hours down in a hurry. Still, the aluminum alloy enclosure, D-pad styled controls, and integrated wireless functions aren't anything to sneeze at, but unfortunately MSI isn't so willing to unveil pricing and availability details just yet.

She's one of the first to ship with Intel's P35 "Bearlake" motherboard and 2.13GHz E6420 Core 2 Duo proc with 4MG cache, 1 GB DDR2 (right, not DDR3) 667 memory, 512MB of GeForce 7650GS graphics, 500GB disk, and DVD writer. No offense, Amtek, we're sure that McCaslin-based U560 of yours has ample reason to be so big and ugly, but we're going to put our dollars on this "MIMD" (Mobile Internet Multimedia Device) Menlow-based UMPC from EB if you don't mind. Yes, it's the same "MID" device which Intel was proudly showing back in April only now with a bit of meat around the source. Along with the promising advances brought by Intel's UMPC-oriented Menlow chipset, the MIMD promises Mobile WiMax, HSDPA, GPS and a 4.8-inch high resolution screen. We should be seeing this one running Linux and hitting sometime in 2008. McCaslin, we hardly knew ye.

If you think these nuggets were the rarest of the rare, just take a look at the PlayStation / Super Famicom prototype pictured above. Back when Sony was reportedly looking to collaborate with Nintendo on a machine, this here device was supposedly the offspring of their collective imaginations, but over a decade later we're finally seeing dusty images of what could have been. Of course, there's no way of telling whether this shot is actually authentic, and Game-Rave certainly doesn't go out of its way to lend any further credibility to the situation, but feel free to click on through for a shot of the rear and take guesses as to how much it'll fetch on The Bay if real.

VIA certainly seems to be attracting OEM attention with their NanoBook Ultra Mobile Device reference design -- they've lined up Packard Bell in the Europe, Engadget Chinese confirmed that Everex would be selling them here in the States, and now Taiwanese outfit iDOT Computers is showing off two variants of their own at Computex: the CE260 and CE261 (pictured). Specs for the CE260 are the same as all the others we've seen, but the CE261 ditches that goofy expansion bay next to the screen for a webcam, classes it up in black, and, uh, loses the touchpad. Seriously, it was small to begin with, but we don't see any kind of pointing device in that photo. Confirmation on that and the rumored internal 3G option will have to wait until we get our hands on one of these -- which could be a while, since there's no word on when and where iDOT is planning on selling these things.

We won't bother trying to number crunch how much coin Apple will be laying down if sources at Business Week are right about just how many iPhones will be available to thrill come June 29th, but Cupertino better hope this thing takes off a tad quicker than the iPod did in 2001. Two separate sources have apparently noted that Apple will have a whopping three million iPhone units ready at launch, which should (if true) quell looming any shortage fears right off the bat. Interestingly, several analysts have predicted that the firm will only move about that many units this entire year, but we're sure Apple won't be complaining if any more iPhones are necessary to quench 2007's demand. Here's to hoping this Rev. A iPhone was thoroughly scrubbed for bugs beforehand, or else Steve & Co. could be dealing with quite a hefty basket of recalled Apples.

They've been showing it off for more than a year, now the latest HDTV to wear the "world's largest" crown is up for retail. On sale starting July with delivery in October, JVC's 110-inch HD-110MH80 will throw a 1080p, rear-projected image right in the comfort of your very own digs. Measuring 3-feet deep and 728-pounds, the new RPTC features JVC's D-ILA technology to achieve that 1920 x 1080 resolution and 5000:1 contrast. Priced at ¥6,400,000 or about $53k when she lands Stateside. Oh, anyone else lovin' the remote in that press picture above?

We'll be straight with ya, Projovian's latest cubic device may have garnered rad points as a prop in a first wave MC Hammer video, but unfortunately, it falls squarely on the chintzy side of things today. Adding legitimacy to the 3D gimmick stereotype, this curious "digital photo frame" takes numerous pictures at different angles simultaneously, and subsequently presents a pseudo-3D image on the crystal stand. Of course, we'd recommend just hacking your webcam to accomplish the same thing on screen with even more detail, but feel free to hop past the jump to take a closer look at this rendition if you wish.

While we doubt a vast majority of you have gone and purchased a wooden PC just yet, a natural tower isn't necessary to enjoy the stained goods that Marubeni Infotec was showing off at Computex. While details concerning pricing, availability, and construction were all but nil, AVing's crew did manage to get its camera up close and personal with some of the wares. On display was a USB keyboard (complete with Scrabble-influenced keys), a number of colorful USB 2.0 flash drives, a multicard reader, and a four-port (we agree, the fourth port is hiding) USB hub. Although this certainly won't go down as the first attempt to integrate cellphones into discrete marketing, Japan's largest online shopping mall operator is apparently taking advantage of the country's oh-so-superior handsets and offering up tantalizing "promotional videos" for consumers who snap pictures of ads. Rakuten is reportedly set to hand out thousands of pilot issues of a magazine, Zero90, in hopes that mobile-wielding readers will snap photos of certain articles in exchange for a ~~free commercial~~ intellectually stimulating media clip. While this sounds an awful lot like QR codes, the actual technology used in the pages isn't mentioned, but we do know that Japahat Japan-based Clementec is behind it -- and you thought print media had too many plugs as is.

They may not boast a name like the "F-Bomb," but Eurocom's new all-in-one LV190 and LV220 ViiVA systems look like they should be able to garner a fair bit of attention on their own. Boasting 19- and 22-inch widescreen displays, respectively, the systems can be configured with your choice of Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Extreme processors, NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 graphics, a max 4GB of RAM, up to two 500GB hard drives, and an internal TV tuner, among other options. Knocking things down a notch, however, is the somewhat lackluster 1680 x 1050 resolution on the 22-inch display, and an even lower 1440 x 900 on the 19-incher. If that's not a deal breaker for ya', you can get your order in now, with systems starting around $1,500 and going up considerably as you pack on the upgrades.

For those in the audience enamored with the iPhone -- especially those willing to look past the lack of 3G and requisite 2-year service agreement -- there's really only one x-factor left: the touchscreen keyboard. We've all seen it done, but no one's ever seen it done right -- and Steve seems to think it's going to be off the chain. So why is Dvorak, noted tech pundit, and goader of Mac users and iPhone fans, reporting that he's got insider information that the iPhone's keyboard is complete crap and "people are going to return the phone in droves"? Well, that might have something to do with the fact that he's Dvorak, but we did consult a trusted and well connected source who, as it turns out, has heard the very same thing from multiple iPhone users, and who further noted that an accessory keyboard to go with th with the device may become necessary if the touchscreen keyboard doesn't cut the mustard. Of course, we can only reserve judgment until we wrap our paws on a real production model, but we hope it all turns out well -- even if only because we're sincerely frightened of an iPhone-incited fanboy riot in the streets.

Our brothers-from-another-mother over at Engadget Chinese have spotted some more nifty gear at Computex: the first webcams from ASUS. The 2-megapixel cams interpolate still shots up to 8 megapixels, and can fold up into "business card mode" for quickly scanning in all the digits you'll be picking up, you sexy bastard. Just a day after Hitachi and Philips boasted about its newest external 1TB offerings, Seagate is up on its own soap box clamoring over the "industry's first 250GB-per-disc, 3.5-inch disc drive." Touting the second-generation of perpendicular magnetic recording technology, the newest Barracuda 7200.10 stretches areal density limits by stuffing 180Gb per square inch, and also manages to "set new benchmarks" for power consumption, acoustics, and performance. The drives will feature a 3Gbps SATA interface and should pop up in future external models, but for now you can probably grab one in a retail box as Seagate has reportedly achieved worldwide volume deployments.

Although we'd caught glimpses of it in the press photos for the SlingLink Turbo 4 Port, the existence of a 1-port version of Sling's 85Mbps powerline networking adapter was strictly rumor until today, when the eagle-eyed placeshifters over at SlingCommunity noticed that the $99 box was up for sale on Sling's website. You're looking at basically the same HomePlug 1.0-compatible box as the SlingLink Turbo 4 Port, but with only one Ethernet jack -- and no need to blow an extra $50 on three extra jacks at the head-end of a powerline setup. No word on whether these things actually pump bits at 85Mbps, but it's not like we can replace our rat's nest of CAT-5 at this point anyway.

We'd heard about the TomTom GO 520 before, but now it's looking a little more official -- so all you Europeans looking to get in on TomTom's new Map Share action but not willing to drop the coin on the new GO 720 can cheer up. Apart from trading in the 720's 2GB of flash and all-Europe (or North America) maps for 512MB or 1GB of your local European region, the 520 is basically the same piece of kit -- 4.3-inch WQVGA display, 400MHz CPU, 64MB of RAM, SD card slot, FM transmitter, Bluetooth, optional RDS-TMC traffic information receiver, and the aforementioned Map Share feature, which lets you edit maps and share them with other GO users online. Europeans should see this one drop in the third quarter of this year, for something like €400 ($537).

Intel's Santa Rosa mobile platform will get a high definition upgrade in the second half of this year when it integrates dedicated hardware decoding from Broadcom to support HD DVD and Blu-ray playback. The extra processing power will let notebooks keep running their Windows Vista Aero experience -- which currently takes a major hit -- while playing high-def discs without relying on more expensive GPUs from NVIDIA or ATI. We know Toshiba is going all HD DVD in its laptops later this year, and we won't be surprised to see more manufacturers throwing in blue laser options across the line. The manufacturer told Ars Technica that future upgrades to the Santa Rosa chipset should include driver updates later this year, and DirectX10 support in 2008.

The antique-minded modder over at Steampunk Workshop had it right: what good is a brass-clad mouse and keyboard with a 21st century monitor destroying the mojo? Fret not, as a Dell 1907FP was torn apart, blasted with gold Krylon, and decorated to the hilt with flashy pieces that your great (great) grandmother would surely love. Best of all, this here creator went above the call of duty by dressing up the monitor with gilded triggers to depress the monitor adjustment buttons underneath the panel. Stock up on those 3G handsets, folks -- they could become very valuable commodities here in the next few weeks. As part of an ongoing series of spats between wireless giants Qualcomm and Broadcom, the US International Trade Commission has ruled that handsets containing Qualcomm 3G chipsets (and that's a whole heck of a lot of handsets) that are manufactured starting today may not be imported into the US. By all accounts, this appears to be much more than legal posturing on Broadcomm's part -- a ban is a ban -- and we've gotta believe this'll resolve itself right quick. But if for whatever reason it doesn't, get ready for an eBay free-for-all in a gloomy, scorched-earth future where the only high speed handsets are pawned for thousands of New Dollars on the black market. Wouldn't these two be a pair, teamed up against Blockbuster's video rental service and the iTunes gorilla? Wall Street seems to think so, and rumors today of Amazon having plans for acquiring Netflix sent shares of the former to heights not seen since 2004. Unfortunately, the fun didn't last long, with Netflix quickly calling it "rumors or speculation," and Amazon defining it as "speculation and rumor." But, like Silicon Valley analyst Rob Enderle states: "If they're not talking, they probably should be."

Good news, folks, we have no idea what's going down on the hardware end at WWDC, leaving ample room for two of the heavy hitters in the Apple rumor industry to come out with completely contradictory reports on new iMacs next week. ThinkSecret is quite confident in new brushed aluminum iMacs, that neglect the 17-inch model and aim to reposition the iconic computer as more of a premium item, starting at $1500. AppleInsider generally agrees on the move to slowly kill off the 17-inch and slim down the iMacs, but is fairly sure we'll have to wait until later in the year for any of that to happen. We'd weigh in, but we're too busy placing bets on how long it'll take that developer beta of Leopard, which will be freely distributed at the show, to hit the interwebs.

Update: ThinkSecret seems to be changing its tune a bit, saying that sources are confident in the plans for a release next week, but that schedules might've changed, pushing the release into the following weeks. Like we said, no idea what's going down.

Sony's already raised more than a few eyebrows in the Netherlands with its questionable methods of advertising the PSP, and it now looks like it could be drawing some ire as a result of changes to the console itself. According to MaxConsole, Sony has decided to recall all current PSPs from retailers in order to replace them with new, "unflashable" units, presumably in an attempt to clamp down on custom firmware. That bit of information comes from someone Max Console describes as a "reputable dutch distributor," who says that a number of large retail chains have already complied with the recall. From the sound of it, they don't appear to have gotten the updated consoles in return just yet though, leaving anyone shopping for a PSP out of luck for the time being.

We always knew Tesla was right: MIT physics professor Marin Soljacic and his team of researchers behind the latest wireless electricity scheme have reportedly demoed their magnetically coupled resonator technology on a 60-watt lightbulb that wasn't plugged in. Of course, no technology should be without a name, and so they've dubbed it WiTricity. Apparently Soljacic thinks it's possible to commercialize WiTricity within the next few years, which would be totally amazing if it was powered by Steorn's humanity-saving infinite energy device. In this case, it's pretty clear where JetWay was getting its ideas for its latest VIA and AMD-based mini-ITX PCs over at Computex 2007. No shame in the game, we can imagine worse form factors for those parts to end up in.

As we've seen, robots can be quite capable of making arrests (or at least helping police make arrests). But even the best robots sometimes meet their match, as evidenced by this latest turn of events out of ~~the Netherlands~~ Denmark. It seems that police were having trouble contacting a man that was holding out in a cottage, so they decided to send in their trusty "Rullemarie" robot on a mission of peace. The criminal doesn't appear to have been in a mood to negotiate, however, and promptly shot the unarmed bot a few times before bludgeoning it with an axe. Sadly, the damage appears to have so extensive that even a robot MASH unit would likely not have been of any help.

With Japan doing the whole earthquake awareness thing, it's not too surprising to see America embracing a more sophisticated method of divulging crisis-related information to those in need. OnStar's new Crisis Assist capabilities will not only provide access to "specially trained crisis advisers" that can contact emergency responders and provide real-time updates to the situation(s) at hand, but subscribers that can actually drive away from the disaster will be routed to the nearest established shelter. Additionally, frantic customers can be connected to friends and family that they have listed as close to their heart on the American Red Cross Safe and Well website, and public safety officials can be notified of a request for help and track down that person's location using OnStar's embedded GPS. Interestingly, there's no word on a timeframe in which we can expect the service to officially go live, but here's to hoping a disaster doesn't strike in order for you to find out.

We can't say that we'd recommend a CEO steal property from Google in order to prove a point, but the head honcho of Macmillan Publishers pushed his superego aside and did just that at a recent BookExpo America in NYC. It's no secret that a number of publishers have been up in arms about Google's approach to digitizing their works, but Richard Charkin went so far as to recruit a colleague and swipe a pair of laptops from a Google Books kiosk at the event. About an hour later, the booth attendants actually noticed the missing goods and presumably began to panic, and the haughty executive then had the nerve to return the machines to their rightful owners whilst dropping the "hope you enjoyed a taste of your own medicine" line. He justified the bizarre behavior by suggesting that "there wasn't a sign by the computers informing him not to steal them," apparently referencing Google's controversial tactics when scanning books. That'll show 'em, Mr. Charkin.

Having already successfully ported its OS to the OLPC, Pepper has now set its sights on slightly less colorful territory, announcing today that its Pepper Linux OS now officially supports the latest Intel-based Mobile Internet Devices (or MIDs). Among other things, the OS has apparently been optimized for the MID's 4 to 7-inch displays, tweaked for optimal power management and battery life, and prepped to allow automatic WiFi and network configuration. The OS also boasts integrated malware protection, automatic system and application updates, and a full complement of audio and video codecs, with the entire OS weighing in at less than 500MB. While there doesn't appear to be word of any MID manufacturers that have signed up to use the OS just yet, it'll be ready to ship to any interested OEMs or ODMs sometime this fall.

While of late we've seemed a bit partial to the ultraportable end of the spectrum, it's hard not to give props to the complete, unadulterated power and gargantuan-ocity of Falcon's new Fragbook DRX. In addition to the boring stuff like a Core 2 Duo Extreme X6800 2.93GHz processor, 4GB of RAM and a 17-inch 1920 x 1200 LCD, the "laptop" packs a 100GB 7200RPM HDD in addition to two 160GB 5400RPM drives, and really ices the cake with the dual NVIDIA GeForce 7950GTX Go 512MB graphics cards. Other minor details include 802.11n WiFi, a built-in TV tuner and a 8x dual-layer DVD burner. Sadly, the one hour of battery life, 12.1 pound heft and $7687 won't endear this puppy to the mainstream, but would the gamer elite really have it any other way?

Okoro Media Systems has been Blu-ray savvy for some time now, but apparently it's looking to bring the peace with a dual-format combo drive in its BX series of HTPCs. The BX100 resides in a fairly slim 4.13-inch tall enclosure and includes an Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 processor, 2GB of DDR2 RAM, 350-watt power supply, optional seven-inch touchscreen, your choice of operating system and media center software, 500GB of hard drive space, NVIDIA's 256MB 8500 GT graphics card, a total of three TV tuners, and a smorgasbord of ports including PS/2, FireWire, serial, optical / coaxial digital audio outputs, two DVI ports, VGA, component, S-Video, composite, Ethernet, and four USB 2.0 connectors. The beefier BX300 steps up to a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 CPU, 1TB of storage spanning two 500GB drives, NVIDIA's 256MB GeForce 8600 GTS graphics card, and a 7.1-channel sound card. Both systems look to be available as we speak with a built-in HD DVD / Blu-ray combo drive, and while the BX100 can be yours for $2,995, the base BX300 will run you an extra $600.
